our parks and public lands are under attack

The Trump administration is cutting funding for our most cherished places, removing vital public lands workers, and trying to sell off Americans’ public lands to pay for tax cuts for billionaires—all at the expense of public access.

This summer, Americans who are eager to visit and enjoy national parks, national monuments, and other public lands are likely to experience long lines, crowded trailheads, closed campgrounds, locked gates, and diminished visitor services. Donald Trump and his administration are to blame for this mess.

President Trump, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have fired thousands of people who care for our parks, making parks and public lands less safe, less clean, and less accessible to the public.

Federal workers hold important jobs safeguarding America’s parks and public lands. They keep communities safe from dangerous wildfires. They work to keep campsites and trails open. They safeguard wildlife. And they preserve access for people to hike, hunt, fish, camp, and off-road on America’s public lands. These are the jobs that the Trump administration has targeted in mass firings.

The administration is threatening to reduce the total number of national park sites, undo national monument designations, and open up millions of acres of national public lands to development and privatization, permanently cutting off public access and enjoyment and degrading or destroying irreplaceable habitats that the West’s unique wildlife species depend on.

The team at the Center for Western Priorities, a Denver-based nonpartisan conservation and advocacy organization, is hitting the road to draw attention to the Trump administration’s attacks on public lands across the country. We’ll be visiting locations across the Western U.S. to hear directly from those most impacted by these reckless and irresponsible attacks on our public lands.
